Lyhyesti kirjoittajasta – Seppo Kuikka

Education
I graduated with the Master’s degree at Helsinki University of Technology (HUT) , in 1977 and (while working) continued studies at Tampere University of Technology (TUT), where I received the Lic.Tech. degree in Automation Engineering and Software Engineering in 1985. My Licenciate thesis deals with requirements specification in the production of automation software. During the industrial working years I have needed some management and marketing knowledge and therefore have taken a Degree in Industrial Economics (HUT, 1984) and a Diploma in Export Marketing (Fintra, 1994). My dissertation (HUT, 1999) deals with domain-specific (batch control) and design-pattern based development of a software component framework, which is enhanced with multi-agency features.
Working experience
After the MSc graduation I worked at Nokia Electronic’s Industrial Automation Department, developing communication software for automation systems. In Valmet’s Paper Machine Works I designed signal analysis software for industrial process surveys. After that, at Technical Research Centre of Finland (VTT), I analyzed software production processes in Finnish companies and developed a specification tool for a software engineering environment. Then I worked in Wärtsilä Automation and Ekono Oy Systems Engineering Department (later ETY-Systems Oy), as a software development manager and director. While working in ETY-Systems I grew interested in education and training and became principal lecturer in Espoo-Vantaa Institute of Technology (EVITech). I worked also as a part time research scientist at VTT Automation in the years 1996 – 2001. I have also consulted, specified software, and managed projects for information systems in energy, metal, and pulp and paper industries. In March 2001, I started as a professor in Automation Technology at TUT/ACI, specializing in Information Systems in Automation.
